Here are 9 fat burning foods that that I highly recommend for both men and women. These tasty foods will speed up your metabolism and help you get lean and mean:

1. Raspberries

Raspberries are considered a superfood because they contain powerful plant nutrients and vitamins that protect your immune system from damage.

Raspberries contain a substance called phytonutrients which come when the raspberry plant grows out of the ground and is exposed to sunlight.

Raspberries are an excellent source of fiber, vitamin C, Vitamin E, magnesium, folate, Vitamin K and several other important nutrients.

Eat a cup of raspberries in the morning mixed with low fat or fat free Greek yogurt for a quick, healthy and nutritious breakfast.

2. Green Tea

Green tea has been shown to speed up the metabolism and increase the rate at which your body burns calories throughout the day when consumed daily.

Green tea contains potent fat burning compounds called Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

EGCG has powerful antioxidant effects that protects your body against free radicals and speed up fat burning by telling your cells to release more fat for energy, especially during exercise.

Drink a cup of Green tea 30 minutes before your workout for maximum fat burning and metabolism boosting effects.

3. Eggs

Eggs are one of the best fat burning foods because they contain essential fats from omega-3 as well as vital nutrients such as B vitamins, choline, Iron and Vitamin D.

When you go out shopping for eggs, be sure to purchase Organic cage free eggs for maximum benefits. Unlike traditional eggs, organic cage free eggs do not contain any harmful pesticides and contain more omega-3 fatty acids per egg.

As part of a healthy fat burning diet and to speed up your metabolism, eat 2 whole eggs per day at breakfast. You can also eat eggs as a snack in-between meals or even at night if you are doing intermittent fasting.

Personally, I prefer to eat eggs at night because they are very filling and I am a big believer in intermittent fasting for weight maintenance and sustainable fat loss.

4. Habanero and Jalapeño Peppers

Hot peppers have been shown in studies to have slight metabolism boosting effect. What’s more, they have also been shown to reduce your appetite which will directly speed up your fat burning as you’ll be eating less food throughout the day.

If you are a fan of spicy foods, eat habanero or jalapeno peppers once a day mixed with fibrous carbs such as brown rice, quinoa and other good carbohydrates and foods that contain healthy fats.

You can also eat hot sauce to get the same fat burning and metabolism boosting benefits as eating hot peppers as hot sauce is made from habanero and jalapeno peppers.

5. Avocado

Avocados not only boost your fat burning and metabolism when eaten in moderation, but they are also incredibly delicious!

Personally, I love to eat guacamole with reduced fat organic corn tortilla chips once or twice a week as a snack. It’s my favorite way to get the health benefits of avocadoes.

Avocados are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, dietary fiber, potassium, Vitamin C and magnesium. Avocados are a true nutritional powerhouse guaranteed to speed up your fat burning and rev up your metabolism.

Just be sure to limit the amount of avocados and guacamole you eat as avocado is high in calories.

6. Asparagus

Asparagus contains compounds that have a diuretic effect which can give your muscles a more toned look. They have also been shown to boost metabolism and fat burning when combined with good carbohydrates and foods rich in omega 3 healthy fats.

Asparagus spears are a good source of fiber and make a great side item to lean meats such as top sirloin, cod, swordfish, turkey and chicken.

7. Chocolate (cocoa)

Believe it or not, chocolate can help you burn more fat and boost your metabolism. Most people view chocolate as an unhealthy food to be avoided at all costs when trying to lose weight.

That is certainly true and I would never recommend that you eat chocolate on your weight loss plan. However, this rule does not apply to dark chocolate with a high cocoa content.

Dark chocolate has many wonderful health benefits along with the potential to aid fat burning. To benefit from dark chocolate when you are trying to burn fat and get into shape, you must choose dark chocolate that has very high cocoa content (minimum 80%).

This is where the health benefits from dark chocolate are derived, the cocoa. Cocoa contains flavonoids which improve blood flow and heart health.

Cocoa also relaxes the lining of your blood vessels through the release of nitric oxide, a natural substance that increases blood flow and is essential for good artery health.

Cocoa has also been shown to lower LDL cholesterol levels, lower your blood pressure, boost cognitive performance and increase your energy levels.

Dark chocolate burns fat because cocoa contains caffeine, and caffeine is a natural fat burner. When consumed, caffeine increases the fat burning hormones adrenaline and norepinephrine, which also have a slight appetite reducing effect.

Limit your consumption of dark chocolate to 2 to 3 squares no more than 2 x a week at most as dark chocolate is high in calories. If you are just looking to maintain weight, you can consume dark chocolate several times a week in moderation.

8. Pumpkin Seeds

Nuts and seeds are a great addition to any fat burning and metabolism boosting nutrition plan. Pumpkin seeds are packed with essential nutrients and fiber, with a whopping 12 grams per cup. They are also an excellent source of magnesium and Iron.

Pumpkin seeds are great to snack on in-between meals and when you are on the go along with a piece or two of low sugar fruit or small amounts of dried fruit.

Pumpkin seeds are a good source of omega 3 fatty acids which boost metabolism and aid in fat burning.

9. Greek Yogurt

Last but certainly not least, Greek yogurt is an excellent addition to our other fat burning foods. Unlike traditional yogurt, Greek yogurt has more than twice the protein per serving compared to standard yogurt.

Greek yogurt is an excellent source of high quality protein which boosts your metabolism and helps you recover from workouts.

I like to eat a cup of Greek yogurt with mixed berries and pumpkin seeds once or twice a week for a potent metabolism and energy boost.

When shopping for Greek yogurt, be sure to choose the low fat and non-flavored version for maximum health and fat burning benefits. Stay away from flavored yogurt as it contains added sugar and sometimes artificial flavorings and preservatives.
